On Friday the 28th of July, the Gawler Town Band set out to take our audience on an adventure through time and place using music, a concept that may boggle the mind but was executed in a delightful and entertaining manner! Below are just a few highlights from the evening.

Beginning with one of Alan Silvestri’s movie masterpieces, we opened with Back to the Future which truly set the scene for the evening. Plus, the costuming of our Musical Director Harry as the great Dr. Emmett Brown really sold the atmosphere!

Best of the West featured an array of famous Western tunes to transport our audience back to a time when the choice was pistols at dawn or a high noon showdown.

From our rendition of Bare Necessities, its easy to see why the clarinet is so loved in the Dixie-land band style swing music of that era. Jack’s upbeat solo was effortless in this classic Disney hit.

Song of the Seas was a captivating collection of sea shantys where upbeat rhythms took listeners on an adventure on the high seas. Yo ho!

Star and Stripes Forever marched our audience to the US of A with Hilary and Sophie’s piccolo soli a highlight for this well known tune.

Asian Folk Rhapsody transported us to Asia. Through a medley of exciting and unique Asian pieces, this piece was great to break up some of our more Western-style tunes.

Misty was included in the set list with at touching backstory coupled with Milly Curry’s sultry voice. It was a fitting jazz-inspired tribute for Harry’s Pop and also a cornerstone in what is the beginning of the new Musical Director’s era leading GTB.

Ultimately, we loved playing this show and the opportunity to dress up as some of our favourite historical characters. We sincerely thank everybody who was able to join us for the evening, and really hope you enjoyed yourself! Make sure to keep an eye on our Live Dates page to find out where we will be next to treat you to more and more of our playing.
