We are always open to new members, young or old! As a concert band, we consist mainly of wind instruments (woodwind and brass). We are open to musicians from pretty much any skill level, and most of our pieces have a good selection of parts for each instrument so you can be assigned to one that matches your ability. Note, however, that if you are totally new to music, we do recommend getting a few lessons with a tutor to establish some fundamental skills. This will make it much easier for you to join in quickly. If you’re unsure where to find a tutor, you can contact us here and we will try to connect you with one quickly. If you have any other questions or are interested in joining, please don’t hesitate to contact us here, or alternatively you can message us on our social media pages.

Please see our Live Dates page for all the details on our confirmed upcoming performances.

The GTB prides itself on being able to play a wide selection of musical styles. We typically try to play a fairly modern set of tunes, with a few older ones mixed in for good measure. Essentially, anything from jazz to pop to classical, we can probably guarantee it’s somewhere in our library! Occasionally we also host themed concerts where we will arrange a set around that theme. For example, our 2019 Around the World concert featured a diverse selection of pieces from many different national cultures.

Some members of our band have participated in marching performances in the past, however we are not a marching band and do not expect any members to know how to march. Occassionally, opportunities will arise in the community that band members are invited to i.e. massed bands, ANZAC Day marches etc., but these are entirely optional. We do not participate in any competitive marching.

We have our own uniform shirts – red long-sleeve shirts with the GTB logo on the breast – that we wear to most of our performances with black pants and shoes. However, particularly for our own concerts, we love a good dress-up opportunity too! Previous costumes themes for our concerts have included movies, 1920s, world culture, and more, and these always see some excellent costumes from our members. Check out our Gallery for some examples.
