Layne first picked up the saxophone at school in 2018. He then joined the GTB in January 2019, after being inspired by their Australia Day performance. He has since been involved in many ensembles, including school bands, musical pit orchestras, jazz big bands, and more, thanks in large part to the experience he has gained in the GTB. He currently holds the title of Webmaster, and was the 2020 Bandperson of the Year along with Mel Hardy.

When not playing the saxophone, Layne currently studies a Bachelor of Psychology (Advanced) (Honours) at the University of Adelaide. He enjoys a very varied selection of music, though is particularly partial to jazz, the home of the saxophone. He also enjoys playing video games, reading, watching a good TV show, and expanding his beloved collection of neckties.

Layne has loved every moment of his time in the GTB, and has made many memories and friendships within he holds very dear. Notably, he has been a member of the GTB longer than any other ensemble he has played in. Layne thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to work with musicians from many backgrounds in a fun environment to produce excellent music from a huge range of styles, and is always looking forward to whatever’s coming next in the GTB!
